This has been another difficult month for me. Faced with a number of challenges preventing me from keeping to my content schedule.
Finding the time to make extra money online can be tough when the world throws you curly challenges.
My progress toward my goal to make extra income and set up some passive income streams has stymied again and it’s a tad frustrating.
Forrest Gump said that life was a box of chocolates. I’ve certainly had a few chewy ones in my box lately.
But let me come back to that.
I believe that universe presents what you need when you need it. We only have to keep our senses alive to ensure we see the opportunities that are presented.
It’s like the universe has been well aware of my inability to find the time and energy to focus on making extra income.
Two posts cropped up in my Feedly account that read my mind as I was experiencing a recurring frustration.
Michelle at Making Sense of Cents published a post about finding the time to make extra money. The timely publishing of this post sent a convenient reminder to how you can find time to work on an extra income project. It has some great suggestions.
One of the suggestions in Michelle’s article was to consider waking up earlier.
This suggestion has cropped up too many times this month from various, unrelated sources for me to ignore.
When I read it I felt like looking up to the sky and shouting, “ok, I get it, you’re sending me a big hint!”.
I am currently taking a course that has a module on productivity. In the module, there is a recommendation to read a book called The Miracle Morning.
The premise of the book is to wake up an hour earlier and follow a suggested routine. The routine aims to increase focus, energy and productivity throughout the day.
I’ve yet to read the book, but I intend too. I like the idea and I’m really intrigued to find out if it works.
Needless to say, watch this space.
The second post was from Choncé at My Debt Epiphany.
She wrote an interesting post about finding the energy to set up and maintain a side hustle. I’ve most definitely been struggling with energy this month.
Every month I set goals for myself. I share them at the end of my income reports to keep myself accountable.
Last month I struggled with maintaining a blogging schedule because life got in the way. This month has been no different.
In fact, life has been a little harder. I’ve had little choice but to step back on writing posts to focus on more important things.
It’s hard to find the time to make extra money when you have kids, a job, ill health or elderly parents.
This month my Dad had a stroke. He’s on the other side of the world and I can’t afford to go and see him. I could do little by being there, other than supporting my Mum and brother, but it would be nice to see him.
It’s been 10 years since I saw him last. He’s been contending with cancer and a brain tumour. It’s been a tough decade for both my parents. I’m blessed that I have an amazing brother, Mum and sister in law who have things under control as best as can be.
Back on my side of the world, I’m dealing with intensifying challenges of my own. These things would prevent me from travelling even if I did have the money to go see my Dad.
It’s a bind to be sure. The only way I can deal with this is to accept that life happens. When it does you have to take stock, reprioritise and take on the challenges with whatever time and resources you have.
If you’ve started a blog or an online business and you’re faced with life challenges that take you off focus, don’t fret. The most important thing is not to give up!
I have a rule which may have been easy to see in my income reports:
Always be moving forward.
Now this is not a hard and fast rule. I can interpret it any which way I want. It boils down to ensuring that every single day I do something that helps me move forward toward my goals.
I try to make forward movement in some manner, no matter how short or impactful that action is.
It could be something as simple as repinning on Pinterest for ten minutes before I go to bed, interacting on Twitter, or reading a fellow blogger’s recent post and leaving a comment.
Forward movement is everything, and small regular gains add up over time.
If you’ve read other parts of my blog you’ll know that I’m in debt. The level of debt is terrifying. I’m largely in the hole because of the challenges I’ve been facing in recent years.
I have three core goals that are the driving force behind this blog:
- Get out of debt.
- Keep out of debt by setting up sources of passive income.
- Enjoy a life of financial freedom on my own terms.
The main benefit to setting up passive income streams is that you do a lot of the work upfront and then step back as the money flows. That’s a simplistic view, but you should get the idea.
When I started this blog I never expected it to be easy or straightforward. I opted to publish income reports from the outset to show you what it takes to make money online. I intend to show you how long it can take and what level of effort is required. And my life is difficult right now. I’m limited by time and money. If I can pull this off, there’s no reason you can’t!
There will likely be moments where you will want to give up.
I’ve not been there yet! I don’t plan on allowing myself to go there.
I’m fortunate, I can remind myself that the life I want to step toward is possible. I’ve been there before, I just failed to take it to the next level at the time.
I’m up for my second innings, unfortunately from a less than ideal financial position. But I have already bagged some lessons.
I have friends who make a full-time income online selling products and services. Some are clipping the ticket through affiliate marketing. They are a further reminder that this is possible.
One is making over a million dollars a year! He can work two hours a day from anywhere in the world and see no disruption to his income.
What a life!
He would be the first to tell you that Rome wasn’t built in a day and you have to just keep edging forward.
Today’s post is not so much about telling you about how you can make time to earn extra money. You can go read Michelle’s post for those tips, I dare say I owe her some traffic.
I simply want to remind you is, that if you want something bad enough, keep your focus! Don’t take your eye or your heart off the goal. Keep edging forward just a little each day even if it’s for 10 minutes and you’ll get there.
When life dishes out a few curly ones accept that you have to re-reprioritize. Just keep moving forward at all costs!
Stick with me. I’m going to crush this through hell or high water!
